and installation of 947 linear feet of new fencing along the south side of
Stoneridge Drive easterly of Val Vista Park.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

This project provides for clearing and grubbing, the removal and disposal of existing fence
and associated footings, installation of temporary fencing for thirteen residences abutting the
existing fence, irrigation system and landscaping restoration where necessary, and installation
of 947 linear feet of new fencing. The existing fence was originally constructed with the
Stoneridge Drive interchange and after previous repairs by the City, is now beyond further
repair. The replacement fence consists of a low retaining section (approximately 2 feet in
height) to support dirt on the residence side of the fence, with a fence height of 6 feet. On the
Zone 7 channel and Stoneridge Drive side, the fence height will be 8 feet. The fence is
constructed with fence boards on both sides of the vertical fence posts to reduce traffic noise
to the existing homes.

Sealed bids for this project were opened on November 8, 2006. Two bids were received, in
the amounts of $228,982 and $352,388.50, as compared to the engineer's estimate for the
project of $245,449 (see attached Bid Summary). Staff is recommending award of contract to
the lowest responsible bidder, SRP Company, in the amount of $228,982. All bid documents
from SRP Company were found to be in order, with past work performed by the contractor
verified to be satisfactory.

BUDGET

Staff is recommending a construction contingency of 20% for this project. In several
locations, the residential backyards abutting the existing fence have trees, shrubs and vines in
very close proximity to the fence, and in some instances have trees and vines overgrowing the
fence. Additional work, which is difficult to estimate prior to the start of the project, may be
required to save existing trees and landscaping.

Funding:

Sound Wall Replacement, CIP No. 058018, FY 05-06

$360,000

Estimated Expenditures

Construction Contract
Contingency (20 % )
Total

SR 06:266
Page 2 of3

$228,982
$45,796
$274,778
