CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 92-172 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS <br />OF ZONE 7 OF THE A~%MEDA COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL <br />AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />ZONE 7) TO ACTIVELY PURSUEANDSECURENEWOUT- <br />OF-VA?W.~Y WATER SOURCES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />water is a finite resource; and <br /> <br />the prolonged drought and the recent severe curtailments <br />of water deliveries from the State Water Project have <br />underscored the need for many communities in the State to <br />review their water supply sources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Zone 7 is the wholesaler of all treated surface water <br />delivered within the Livermore-Amador Valley, the <br />majority of which water is imported from the State Water <br />Project, operated by the State Department of Water <br />Resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Zone 7, through its District Act, has the power and <br />responsibility to appropriate and acquire water and water <br />rights, and import water into the district; and <br /> <br />future reductions in the water supply to Zone 7 from the <br />State Water Project are likely due to economic, <br />environmental, regulatory and legislative pressures; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the city of Pleasanton is a water retailer providing <br />water service to persons, firms, partnerships, <br />associations, corporations, and political entities within <br />Pleasanton and surrounding areas, all within Alameda <br />County, California; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />by contract, the City of Pleasanton depends upon Zone 7 <br />to supply approximately 75% of the water the City sells, <br />with the remaining 25% of the City's water supply coming <br />from local groundwater pumped by City owned wells; and <br /> <br />it is imperative to the public welfare and benefit of <br />this community that a safe, adequate and reliable water <br />supply be available for the use of the City's existing <br />and future water customers; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> <br />
