CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 92-172 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF ZONE 7 OF THE A~%MEDA COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT ZONE 7) TO ACTIVELY PURSUEANDSECURENEWOUT- OF-VA?W.~Y WATER SOURCES WHEREAS, WHEREAS, water is a finite resource; and the prolonged drought and the recent severe curtailments of water deliveries from the State Water Project have underscored the need for many communities in the State to review their water supply sources; and WHEREAS, Zone 7 is the wholesaler of all treated surface water delivered within the Livermore-Amador Valley, the majority of which water is imported from the State Water Project, operated by the State Department of Water Resources; and WHEREAS, WHEREAS, Zone 7, through its District Act, has the power and responsibility to appropriate and acquire water and water rights, and import water into the district; and future reductions in the water supply to Zone 7 from the State Water Project are likely due to economic, environmental, regulatory and legislative pressures; and WHEREAS, the city of Pleasanton is a water retailer providing water service to persons, firms, partnerships, associations, corporations, and political entities within Pleasanton and surrounding areas, all within Alameda County, California; and WHEREAS, WHEREAS, by contract, the City of Pleasanton depends upon Zone 7 to supply approximately 75% of the water the City sells, with the remaining 25% of the City's water supply coming from local groundwater pumped by City owned wells; and it is imperative to the public welfare and benefit of this community that a safe, adequate and reliable water supply be available for the use of the City's existing and future water customers; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
