restrooms are currently under construction in Delucchi Park, and this presents an opportunity to
improve the landscape area immediately surrounding the new building.

To continue field and storage improvements at Sports and Recreation Community Park, $20,000
is recommended to supplement existing funds and complete renovation of Little League Field
#2; and an additional $10,000 to complete the replacement of storage sheds behind Little League
Fields #2 and #3. To date, Hardball Fields A, B, C and Little League #1 have been renovated,
and storage sheds replaced at Hardball A, B, C, and Little League #1 and #4.

In May 2006, the Parks and Recreation Commission approved $20,000 for creation of a small
dog exercise area at Muirwood Park. In addition to this expansion, funds to install experimental
drainage to improve wet conditions during winter months throughout the entire dog exercise
area are being requested.

Funding in the amount of $22,000 is recommended for conversion of inefficient sprinkler heads
throughout Parks Area 1. The majority of parks in this area (Neilson, Meadows, Orloff, and
Bicentennial) are more than 20 years old. A newer generation of water efficient sprinkler heads
are now available that should allow for further water savings at these locations. Also proposed
is $3,000 to upgrade irrigation controller units at three (3) street median locations (Hopyard
Road at Arthur Drive; Parks ide Drive; and Mohr Avenue at Kamp Drive). Upgrades at these
locations are minor, requiring only the installation of new circuit boards.

Another $17,000 is needed to replenish the protective wood chip mulch for various City
playgrounds, keeping them compliant with the Handbook for Public Playground Safety
Standards. These chips slowly decompose and need annual replenishment. Finally, $4,000 is
proposed for the continued replacement of irrigation backflow unit covers. These covers are
necessary to protect the backflow units from vandalism, and damage from freezing temperatures
during the winter months.

FISCAL IMPACT

Sufficient funding is available in the FY 2006/07 Park Renovation Fund to offset the cost of the
proposed improvements.

Respectfully Submitted,

~

o~~

David Culver
Finance Director

J es W.
