Aquatic Center and Santa Rita Road. Over the years, the turf had become rutted and uneven,
and the irrigation system was failing. As a result, each year the Parks Maintenance Division
found it more costly to maintain healthy turf for active park use.

A formal bid opening was held on December 15,2005, with a total of six (6) bids received. The
low bid of $359,750 was submitted by Suarez and Mufioz Construction, Inc., and all bid
documents were found to be in order. The Engineer's estimated cost for this work was
$360,000.

On January 17, 2006, the City Council awarded the construction contract, and work began in
early February. The contractor has completed all of the work in a satisfactory and timely
manner. The "grow-in period" for the newly seeded turf has commenced, and will last
approximately ten (10) months under the direction of the City's Parks Maintenance Division.
The affected area will remain fenced during this period, and should be ready for community use
in spring 2007.

BUDGET

Funding for the project ($234,071) was allocated in the Park Renovation Fund, project #037041.
Additional funding was transferred from project #047027 (Irrigation Renovation, Area 3) and
#027012 (Fairlands Park Irrigation Renovation Project), for combined funding of $395,725.
The original contract amount was $359,750, and three (3) contract change orders for various
irrigation system upgrades were issued totaling $15,260.04. The total adjusted contract amount
is $375,010.04. The unused funds ($20,714.96) will be returned to the Park Renovation Fund
for use in other park or street landscaping projects.

FISCAL IMPACT

Completion of these improvements is expected to reduce park maintenance costs due to the
improved irrigation system and renovated turf.

Respectfully submitted,

~W7;-

JWw.
