Abou~
20 raised their hands, noting they drove that way because it is
a~tractive and more relaxing than the ~reeway.

Commissioner Horan commented that he has had a number o~ ~eo~!e
talking to him about the need ~ar safety on Foothill RoaC,
because of the number of ~atalities and acc~aents tha~ have
taken place. He said tha~ he still supports an improve~ 2-lane
road, with bike lanes i~ possible. He stated that he continues
to feel that slowing traffic down makes more sense than 4 lanes.
(The audience responde~ with much clapping)-

Commissioner McGuirk stated that he still feels that all
_ construction relating to I-&80 should be complete ~efore
anything major is done to Foothill Road. He thought that
strategically placed signal lights or stop signs, along with
soltoned corners and some banking in some areas would greatly
increase safety features. He continued that he favored 2 lanes,
but +eli that when !-~0 is complete and there still seems %o be
a problem on Foothill Road, that the aption remain omen =o took
at the situation again. He was definitely in favor of at least
one bike lane and felt that peddle would greatly enjoy being
aPie to view the rural atmosphere- He would want the area to
retain the rural look as mucm as possible. He did not think
Foothill Road could handle any more developments built along it
as it is now; he supported keeping the road at 2 lanes,
improved with safety features, without ~aking people's property
away from them.

Commissioner Michelotti stated that she disagreed with a comment
that 4 lanes would eliminate the need for bike lanes. She still
felt strongly that ~ike lanes would be needed, and asked that
staff explore the possibility of having a slightly reduced bike
lane on one side an~ a pedestrian path on the other. She would'
support staff's recommendation for treatment of the Kliment

property.
