In addition, at all solid waste facilities in Alameda County, there are programs to tram
workers to detect and remove HHW and other hazardous wastes from the waste stream and to
randomly inspect loads of solid waste for the presence of HHW and other hazardous wastes.
These activities are referred to as load checking programs.

The countywide HHW and load checking programs are chosen as the HHW program for
Pleasanton. Pleasanton's role in this program consists of the following:

· Participation of elected Pleasanton representative in policy decisions by the ACW1MA
regarding the HHW pwgram.

· Rates have been adjusted to include County-imposed surcharges on garbage rates to
cover Pleasanton's share of the County HHW program costs.

· Encourage the residents of Pleasanton to use one of three proposed pennanent HHW
facilities in the County by dissemmating County literature and other means.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE ELEMENT OBJECTIVES

Short- and medium-term objectives have been established for the HHW Element for 1995
and 2000, respectively.
