SITE DESCRIPTION

The Community Park is sited in the easternmost portion of
the Bernal Property; south of Bernal Avenue, northeast of
Valley Avenue, and west of the Union Pacific Railroad
tracks (Figure 1). The Park is to be situated completely
within the area specified by the 2004 "Initiative to Save
Our Community Park" (Appendix 1), with limited shared
parking adjacent to the "grand meadow."

Site terrain is flat, with the exception of a small
north/south drainage canal. Existing vegetation within the
Park area includes a mature cottonwood tree in the central
portion, several willows along the north/south drainage
canal, and cultivated feed crops (red oat hay and alfalfa)
for leased commercial hay production. Most of the site has
historically been cultivated such that native vegetation has
not been able to re-establish. Annual grasses and forbs
known to grow on the site include wild oat, filaree,
plantain, wild radish, and black mustard.

.

BERNAL COMMUNITY PARK AREA: Looking south from Bernal
Avenue.

2
