CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99-046 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION APPOINTING CHARLENE VILLELLA AS <br />POET LAUREATE OF PLEASANTON AND APPOINTING <br />JIM OTT AS POET LAUREATE ELECT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Civic Arts Commission recommended that a poet laureate and poet laureate <br />elect be appointed for the City of Pleasanton; and <br /> <br />at its meeting of November 17, 1998, the City Council approved the <br />recommendation; and <br /> <br />staff developed an application process and a Poet Laureate Selection Committee <br />was formed to review candidates' poetry, background, and preparedness for the <br />position; and <br /> <br />after careful review of the candidates' poetry and experience in the public arena, <br />the Selection Committee nominated Charlene Villella to be Pleasanton's first Poet <br />Laureate and nominated Jim Ott to serve as Poet Laureate Elect; and <br /> <br />at its meeting of April 5, 1999, the Civic Arts Commission unanimously approved <br />the recommendations. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />Section 2: <br /> <br />The City Council hereby appoints Charlene Villella to be Pleasanton's first Poet <br />Laureate, which term shall expire on April 30, 2001, or until such time as she is <br />replaced. <br /> <br />The City Council hereby appoints Jim Ott as Poet Laureate Elect, to assume the <br />position of Poet Laureate on May 1, 2001, with his term to expire on April 30, <br />2003, or until such time as he is replaced. <br /> <br />Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
