CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 93-131 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION REGARDING STATE BALLOT MEASURE 172 <br /> THE LOCAL PUBLIC SAFETY PROTECTION AND <br /> IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 1993 AND ALAMEDA COUNTY <br /> MEASURE A <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of California has shifted $97.3 million in <br /> property taxes from Alameda County and $21.9 million from <br /> cities within Alameda County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, to partially backfill the local government property tax <br /> laws, the Governor of California has extended the 1/2% <br /> sales tax from July 1, 1993 to December 31, 1993 with the <br /> specific intent those additional tax dollars would be <br /> spent at the County and City levels of government for <br /> public safety services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of California has placed Proposition 172, the <br /> Local Public Safety Protection and Improvement Act of <br /> 1993, on the November 1993 statewide special election <br /> ballot, asking citizens of California to adopt a 1/2% <br /> sales tax to be used for public safety purposes by county <br /> and city governments; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the County of Alameda has placed Measure A on the same <br /> ballot, which would continue in effect a 1/2% sales tax <br /> in Alameda County to support public safety services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, failure to pass Proposition 172 or Measure A would have <br /> a significant impact on public safety services through <br /> Alameda County. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1: The City of Pleasanton supports the need to secure <br /> stable revenue sources including sales tax revenue, to <br /> enable cities and counties to provide adequate and <br /> efficient public safety services. <br /> <br /> Section 2: The City of Pleasanton supports Proposition 172, the <br /> Local Public Safety Protection and Improvement Act of <br /> 1993 and Alameda County Measure A to the extent that they <br /> establish secure and predictable revenue sources to <br /> support City and County public safety services. <br /> <br /> Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately <br /> upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
