<br />Alameda Connty Transportation Improvement Anthority <br />Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities <br /> <br />6.\, DESCRJI>TIOI\ OF SERYICE (,O~II'OI\ENTS ,\1\ 0 I'LANI\ED CII.\I\GES <br /> <br />Please provide a narrative description for each service component listed in Question 6 and <br />describe any planned changes. <br /> <br />ReSDonse: <br /> <br />Pleasanton Paratransit Service (PI'S) provides transportation for PleasantonlSunol residents <br />60 years or older, and to disabled residents of any age. Livermore Amadaor Valley Transit <br />Authority (LA VTA) determines ADA eligibility for disabled residents, The purpose of the <br />program is to reduce isolation, increase socialization and encourage independent living, <br />thereby minimizing the needs for institutionalization and enhancing the quality of life for <br />residents no longer able to drive or those who do not have a car available. The program <br />provides door-to door, driver assisted transportation. PPS requires the driver to remain within <br />sight of the vehicle at all times for the safety of all concerned, <br /> <br />Registration for PI'S is required, and applications may be obtained from the Paratransit <br />Office or are available on line, Staff is available to assist clients in completing the <br />application. Staff requires two (2) days to process applications and begin service. <br /> <br />Reservations can be made up to two (2) weeks in advance through the Paratransit Office. <br />Rides are reserved on a first-call, first-served basis, and dispatchers encourage round-trip <br />reservations. Due to the service demands, PPS is not able to provide same day reservations. <br /> <br />The PI'S fleet includes one (I) van and six (6) mini-buses. These vehicles are owned, <br />operated and maintained by the City of Pleasant on. Service is available Monday through <br />Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are six (6) drivers <br />scheduled on weekdays and two (2) drivers on Saturdays. The service does not operate on <br />Sunday. When PPS is not operating, LA VT A provides comparable services to ADA eligible <br />clients. <br /> <br />There are two (2) full-time and seven (7) part time Drivers, all City of Pleasant on employees. <br />All drivers are hired, trained and supervised by the City of Pleasant on. There is currently one <br />(I) full time Dispatcher and one (I) part time Dispatcher, both City employees. A part-time <br />Office Aide assists with passenger reservations, A Recreation Supervisor and Community <br />Services Manager provide management for this program. <br /> <br />The fare structure is divided into two (2) areas of service: (1) In-Town service, and (2) Out- <br />Of-Town service. (See Attachment A.) Pleasanton residents pay $2.00 for in-town service <br />and $2.50 for out-of-town service. Residents living in Sunol and the unicorpated areas of <br />Pleasanton pay $2.50 for in-town service and $3.00 for out-of-town service. Rider punch <br />cards are sold for $20.00 and $25.00, and may be purchased in advance at the Pleasanton <br />Senior Center. Drivers punch the client card according to destination.
