Treatment Plant
The Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) fJrovides wastewater treatment services to the

At the DSRSD wastewater treatment plant, wastewater first passes through screens which remove
large objects such as rags, sticks, and cans. It then passes through a grit chamber where sand, grit,
and small stones settle prior to removal. The wastewater then moves to sedimentation tanks where
most of the remaining solids settle to the bottom as raw sludge. Treatm.'nt then entails removing
'fhc-sludge i, 1""IVV"d and seninC it aside for further treatment. This fi.r.sLphase of sewage
treatment is tll\; GI;'tt ulcnllC"d the Hprimary treatment" stage. Till,.; 01,.;11\"'1(11 11l,;dtllH;;ut pIU\"'I,.;~;'t ;::'l

Secondary treatment takes the eflluent from the sedimentation tanks and transfers it to an aeration
tank where it is mixed with air and bacteria-infested sludge to further break down the organic
matter. After several hours, hnrtC"rin nrtivntps the sludge.,...... L\.,,\..UIII\.,,;'t adivat\;J w;lh Ldd\;lid
