The Firehouse Theater will, with out a doubt, have a positive impact on the
downtown; increasing pedestrian traffic, especially during the evening hours, supporting the downtown
merchants who are encouraged to remain open. A high quality project would also expand the perceived
shopping/strolling area of downtown, drawing people from Main Street toward Railroad A venue and
vice versa, thus encouraging new development along those and adjacent blocks.

The PDA's Design Committee first reviewed the architectual plans on November 15,2005. At that
time, the committee voiced its concerns that the proposed design was not in keeping with the
established historical setting of downtown Pleasanton. Additionally, the proposed design did not
conform to the Downtown Design Guidelines or Downtown Specific Plan. Due to the significance of
the project, it was also reviewed by the Board of Directors at their November 22, 2006 meeting. The
board directed the Design Committee to continue to work with City staff on revisions to the proposed
external design.

While it's extremely important to the PDA to keep the project on track, we ask that the Planning
Commission consider a design that conforms to the Downtown Design Guidelines/Downtown Specific
Plan and if possible, be more in more in keeping with the historical preservation of the original
firehouse. The appropriate renovation of this historical structure is significant to the developmental
history and overall ombiance of Pleasant on.

We appreciate the opportunity to work further with the City on what will be, ajewel in our crown of
downtown.

Sincerely,

Christine Salidivar
Executive Director

830 Main Street, Suite A Pleasanton, CA 94566
Phone: (925) 484-2199 / Fax: (925) 484-3064
info@pleasantondowntown.net
www.pleasantondowntown.net
