REPORT OF THE DOWNTOWN PLEASANTON BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT <br /> FISCAL YEAR 1995 - 1996 <br /> <br /> The Donton Pleasaaron Bu-~in~s lmnrovemem District is a non-prop~t service organizalion of Downwwn <br /> businesses declicaw, d to the .ongoing revilalizatio; of Pleasanton's historic businto district <br /> <br /> This organization which represents all Downtown busineses (tetallen, professionals, and services), was created by <br /> the City Council in January, 1984, and modified in August, 1985. It follows the C. alifomia Stale Legislature enacted <br /> "Parking and Business Improvmnent Area Law", known as SB 142 <br /> <br /> The DPBID functions as an assessment district with itS operating capital geaerated through member Participation. <br /> as well as volunteer donedons. It is govuned by a 12-member Board of Direczon. <br /> <br /> The present me of levy is based upon the following formula: <br /> l. All businesses shall pay two times their annsill] City Bnsine~ LA~ixse, ~ubject to a minimum charge of <br /> $75 and a maximum charge of $200. <br /> 2. Any business exempt from the City Business License tax shall pay an annual charge of S200 to the district. <br /> 3. Only non-profit tax -exempt businesses ghn~l be exempt from the DowmDwn District Assessment <br /> <br /> The DPBID (best known as the Pleasanton Downtown Association) goal is to improve the quality of life in down- <br /> town --the heart of the community. The Associalion's long-term goal is tD m~mgthen the commercial economy of <br /> Pleasamon's Central Business District <br /> <br /> Current boundaries of the DPBID are the Arroyo del Valle on the north. Bemal Avenue on the south, the east side <br /> of Peters Avenue, and the west side of F~st Street, including all of Old Bemal Avenue. (For the 1995-1996 fiscal year there <br /> ar~ no proposed bounclary ages in the parking and business improvement area. ) <br /> <br /> ACTIVITIF~ AND IMPROVEMENTS: <br /> <br /> The popular Farmers Market contiunues to grow and attract many residentS 52 Saturdays, year round from 9 am. <br /> to 1 p.m. Entmainment and produce tasting adds to the arablance of the event <br /> <br /> Concerts in the park continue to draw record crowds on Friday evenings, May through September, with a variety of <br /> entertainment. <br /> <br /> In April a Quilt and flower show will take place: - "Pleasanton is Blooming - Quilts and Flowers" This win be the <br /> first annual event under the direction of the Marketing Commitme. <br /> <br /> The Fra~ and Associates or I-laywarcl will continue to work with PDA to bring Antique Fairs in May and Ottobet <br />of this year. <br /> <br />year. Heritage Days will be June 10 and l 1. A classic cars display will be incmptwatnl with Heftrage Days this <br /> <br /> August will feature Cxnise night with cruising down Main Street. This is very weU allended by the residentS of <br />Piston and is profitable for downtown. <br /> <br /> <br />
