The maximum monthly accrual rate shall be 16,667 hours. <br /> <br /> An employee, except a probationary employee, may be <br /> allowed to incur a forty (40) hour deficit beyond his/her <br /> accrued vacation. <br /> <br />10.3 Vacation Accumulation <br /> <br /> Effective January1, 1978, an employee will be allowed to <br /> have an accumulation of no more than two (2) years' <br /> vacation accrual to his credit at any one time. <br /> <br />10.4 Vacation Schedule <br /> The times during a calendar year at which an employee may <br /> take his/her vacation shall be determined by the <br /> department head with due regard for the wishes of the <br /> employee and particular regard for the needs of the <br /> service. <br /> <br /> If the requirements of the service are such that an <br /> employee cannot take part of all of his/her annual <br /> vacation in a particular calendar year, such vacation <br /> shall be taken during the following calendar year. If the <br /> employee chooses to carry over vacation to the following <br /> year, the scheduling of the vacation time carried over <br /> must await completion of the preparation of the annual <br /> vacation schedule referred to in the following paragraph. <br /> <br /> Annually, employees in the operations, investigation, <br /> and support services divisions may request on a rotating <br /> basis three vacation periods for the calendar year. <br /> The rotation shall be according to seniority by <br /> classification and by division. All employees in each <br /> division shall have had an opportunity to request their <br /> first choice of vacations before second choices may be <br /> requested. Third choices shall be exercised in the same <br /> fashion. A vacation request schedule shall be <br /> distributed to all employees no later than October 1st of <br /> each year. The target date for completed vacation <br /> request schedule shall be December 1st. <br /> <br /> Vacation leave may not be taken in conjunction with <br /> leaving City employment. <br /> <br />10.5 Vacation Pay at Termination <br /> Employees shall be paid for all accrued vacation leave <br /> earned prior to the effective date of termination. Such <br /> compensation for earned vacation shall be paid to the <br /> employee in one lump sum in a final check. <br /> <br />Section 11. Sick Leave <br /> <br />11.1 Sick Leave Accrual <br /> During his/her one year probationary period each new full <br /> time employee shall earn sick leave at the rate of eight <br /> (8) hours for each month of service.
