Existing Transpodation Conditions <br /> <br /> Chapter Summary <br /> <br /> · Tri-Valley is relatively free of congestion. Some occasional congestion occurs on the <br /> freeways, especially near the 1-580/I-680 interchange. <br /> · Transit usage is relatively low--four percent of total trips. <br /> · Existing average vehicle ridership is about 1.1 for commute trips. <br />-- · There are 14,000 more employed residents than jobs, so there is net out-commuting. <br /> · 1-680 and 1-580 are major regional highways serving substantial regional demand. <br /> Each has 15 to 20 percent through traffic. <br /> <br /> Thla chapter describes the existing transportation systems within the Tri-Valley area, <br /> including the reutes of regional significance, the intersection levels of service at major <br />-- intersection locations, tr_~ffic vol-mes, transit systems, and bicycle routes serving the <br /> area. <br /> <br />-- Figure 2-1 shows the number of lanes on the Routes of Regional Sign~6cance. Each is <br /> described below. <br /> <br /> State Highways <br /> <br /> Interstate 580 (I-580) is an eight-lane eat/west freeway designated as a route of regional <br /> significance through the Tri-Valley area. Auxiliary lanes exist between Foothill Road and <br /> Santa Rita Road. 1-580 is a critical freight reute as designated by the AlAmeda County <br /> CMA. A truck-climbing lane exists in the westbound direction from Foothill Road to the <br /> top of the Dublin grade.
