Resolution No. 95-10 Page 2 As stated by the National Endowment for the Arts, "Our need to make, experience and comprehend art is as profound as the need to speak. It is through art that we can understand ourselves and our potential... and it is through art that we will be understood and remembered by those who will come after us." Therefore, we encourage the City to accept the responsibility for expanding our experience with visual art. Section 4: The mission statement of the Art in Public Places Committee is "To promote the acquisition of works of public art in Pleasanton that will foster creativity, engender civic pride, encourage a sense of community and enrich the lives of our citizens." Section 5: Within the parameters of the above-mentioned mission statement, the Art in Public Places Committee shall work toward establishing an Art in Public Places ordinance which will determine funding options for art in public places, establishing guidelines and procedures relative to the selection, placement, and ongoing maintenance and ownership of art in public places and establishing ongoing roles and responsibilities of the Committee once the ordinance is adopted and the program is implemented. Section 6: The Art in Public Places Committee shall be comprised of five members and an alternate. One of the members shall be a member of the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council. All members shall be residents of the City and shall be committed to furthering public arts in the community. Section 7: Members will be appointed to the Committee in accordance with City Resolution No. 91-91, A Resolution Establishing Procedures for Appointments to City Boards and Commissions. The current members of the Committee who predate the approval of this resolution shall remain on the Committee. Section 8: The Committee shall meet monthly at a predetermined time and place. Section 9: Committee members shall serve for four year terms with a maximum of two terms. In the case of a vacancy, appointment shall be made for the remainder of the vacating committee member's term. Section 10: Committee members shall not be compensated for their services. Attendance at committee meetings is subject to Section 18.16.130 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code.
