ANTICIPATED EXPENDITURES: <br /> <br /> One Police Officer Position including benefits $79,000 <br /> Refurbishment of 1989 Crime Prevention Van <br /> (5500 miles, no funds are currently set aside for this in the <br /> Support Services or Police Department budgets) $3,000 <br /> Production of a 30 to 40 minute Informational Video <br /> about the police department and community <br /> involvement in public safety and crime prevention. <br /> This has been a stated goal for the police department <br /> and not accomplished previously due to budget <br /> constraints. Preliminary discussion with Channel 30 <br /> indicates the cost for the desired length and quality of the <br /> production for a public agency varies up to $30,000 <br /> Auto Dialing System used on a daily basis to notify <br /> Neighborhood Watch group captains of current problems <br /> in their neighborhood the groups can assist us with. This could <br /> be used to canvas neighborhoods for witnesses in serious <br /> crimes investigation. This can be used to call out various <br /> levels of Emergency Operations Personnel in a disaster. $19,000 <br /> Laminated pin maps for directed patrol display, brochures, handouts. $2,100 <br /> Administrative Costs not to exceed 0.5% of appropriation. $668 <br /> (The preceding costs are estimated.) Total $133,768 <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> <br />Through this program the State provides additional funding of $133,768 to Crime Prevention for <br />fiscal year 1996/97, with anticipation that the program may be funded in each succeeding year. <br />There are no additional costs, and unlike some Federally funded programs, we do not provide <br />matching funds and we do not have to absorb the cost in the event of the absence or limitation of <br />State funding. <br /> <br />We recommend that the Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to fund these <br />program additions for 1996/97 through the use of COPS appropriation. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />W.
