The additional cost of contract plan checking is offset by salary savings and increased revenues. <br /> <br />Other <br /> <br />Other major expenditure increases total about $490,000 and include temporary building <br />inspection assistance to cover peak in workload ($80,000); a correction in the original PERS <br />calculation ($140,000); additional clerical assistance in Public Works ($20,000); a correction in <br />the original budget for telephone costs ($50,000); the reinstatement of the equipment <br />replacement charge ($85,000) which was reduced at the time the budget was adopted in order to <br />fund extra library costs; supplies, dues, advertising ($50,000); legal expenses regarding the <br />appeal of an employee termination ($50,000); and software support which was inadvertently <br />omitted in the original budget ($15,000). <br /> <br /> Overall, staff is recommending that expenditure appropriations be increased by a net $76,363. <br /> <br /> GENERAL FUND RESERVES <br /> <br /> With the changes staff is recommending to the General Fund 1995-96 Budget, a fund balance of <br /> $670,000 is projected. The 10% Reserve for Economic Uncertainties and the Temporary <br /> Recession Reserve will be untouched, and the Capital Projects Reserve will have a balance of <br /> $1.6 million. This Reserve was established in 1990 with the adoption of <br /> the City's Financial Policies.
