Goals &Objectives Pleasanton Cultural Plan

Goal F: Downtown
Pleasanton

I I
To elevate the artistic, cultural, and historic aspects of Downtown Pleasanton.

Rationale

It is widely recognized by those who have ever visited Downtown Pleasanton
that it stands out as a jewel among the many historic central business districts
throughout the Bay Area and northern California. At the juncture afforded by the
cultural planning process, the Planning Committee recognizes the opportunity to
further capitalize on the downtown district's high quality shopping. dining,
historic flavor, and pedestrian-friendly arabianee by further expanding the
cultural identity of downtown Pleasanton.

Whether it involves after-hours programming, public art installations, or special
event programming, it is the intent of this Cultural Plan that continued efforts are
made to enhance Main Street and its environs as a "Cultural Concourse." In so
doing, it is envisioned that the resulting "cultural district" will foster an
expanded sense of community among those who live in the city as well as
visitors, and connect with the city's rich heritage, cultural, and art resources.

See also Facilities.

Key to Objective Symbols: 'k - Priority * - Other ~ - Implementation Step I

Objectives
'k Identify opportunities for Public Art in Downtown Pleasanton and work with
appropriate entities (e.g., Civic Arts Commission, Planning Commission,
Pleasanton Downtown Association, etc.) to develop new public art
installations for the city's central core.

· Work with the Pleasanton Downtown Association (PDA) and other
stakeholders (e.g., City of Pleasanton Planning Commission) to install
informational kiosks in strategic downtown Pleasanton locations.

· Continue to work with PDA and others to develop and operate a central
ticketing service/outlet in downtown Pleasanton.
:=, Working with city staff, volunteers, and professional consultants,
develop a Business Plan which incorporates capital and operating costs,
staffing and location considerations, hard/software, and other factors
associated with a central ticketing/promotion location.

,4MS Planning &Research 20
May 1998
