CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 97-71 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "1997 <br /> SPARE THE AIR CITY" CAMPAIGN <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is conducting its voluntary <br /> Spare the Air program from June 1 to October 15, 1997, in the nine <br /> counties that comprise the San Francisco Bay Area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Spare the Air is now in its seventh year and has 630 public and private <br /> employers and organizations who pledge to participate in the Spare the Air <br /> Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has some of the cleanest air of any <br /> metropolitan area in the nation, as evidenced by the region's designation as <br /> an attainment area for the national ozone standard in 1995, but recently <br /> began experiencing its highest air pollution levels in almost ten years and is <br /> now in jeopardy of losing its attainment status; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Clean Air Parmership (BayCAP) is a public-private <br /> partnership that supports the voluntary effort to improve the Bay Area's air <br /> including the Spare the Air Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, BayCAP will recognize cities that participate in the "Spare the Air City" <br /> campaign by carrying the clean-air theme citywide; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton wishes to obtain the designation of "Spare the Air <br /> City". <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council pledges that the City of Pleasanton will do the following: <br /> <br /> a. Acknowledge local businesses who participate in Spare the Air; <br /> <br /> <br />
