Commissioner Blank noted that there was considerable planning for a possible outbreak <br />of Avian Influenza, including the possibility of shelter in place, and believed. that if a <br />vaccination became available, it would be responsible for the City to require it if it is <br />recoxrxniended by the L7SDA. <br />Chairperson Maas concurred with Commissioner Blank's statement fbr the safety of the <br />public and the arximals_ <br />Cormissioner Roberts noted that 4-I-I Club children would be aware of that requirement. <br />G'ommissioxxer Roberts proposed an amendment to allow six chickens due to the <br />showing practices for 4-H Club_ <br />A discussion regarding the keeping of six anixrxals ensued. Commissioner Fox's concern <br />was six chickens being allowed and also believed that existing chickens in Pleasanton <br />should be grandfathered in. <br />Coxrimissioner Blarxlc noted that he was a little hesitant regarding six chickens aimed was <br />unsure how grandfathering could be controlled- <br />C7omxriissioner Blank acid Chairperson Maas accepted the proposed amendment- <br />Corxxmissioner Fox suggested that Section F.3. be modified to read as follows= "The coop <br />shall be located in a. location that is appropriate for chicken habitation that maximizes <br />distances from neighbors' backyard activities and all neighbors' windows-" <br />Ms. Nerland advised that would be a difficult item to handle in an over-the-counter <br />transaction. <br />Commissioner Yearce believed the chickens should be placed in ati appropriate place and <br />was hesitant to allow six chickens. <br />Chairperson Maas believed that if six chickens were to pose a problem, the City would <br />hear irorrx the neighbors. <br />Mr_ Ficken described the process of filing and following-up on comp] amts, prixrxarily <br />based upon smell and noise. <br />ROLL CALL VOTE. <br />AYES: Commissioners Blank, Fox, Maas, Pearce, and Roberts. <br />NOES: None. <br />ABSTAIN: None. <br />RECUSED: None. <br />ABSENT.
