Francis Stone, 422 Saint Mary Street, noted that this building would house the pub iF it <br />were to be approved and added that the appeal before City Council would be heard on <br />February 1 , 2005. She requested that any action on this item be deferred until after the <br />appeal has been heard, if this building were to be dedicated to housing the pub_ She <br />expressed concern about the level of traffic Lhat would be drawn onto Peters Avenue. <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that this application and the appeal were two difFerent <br />items. <br />Brenda Sauter, 418 Saint Mary Street, spoke in opposition to this item and noted that as <br />Downtown residents, they expected noise and traffic. She appreciated the applicant's <br />willingness to improve this building. She expressed concern about infrastructure and <br />believed that the parking lot also used by Fernando's would fill up during the day. She <br />expressed concern about traffic in the area and noted that noise was also an issue_ <br />Michael O'Callaghan, Pleasanton Downtown Association PDA), 125 West Neal Street, <br />invited any Planning Commissioner to sit on the PDA's Design Review Committee and <br />noted that they enjoyed a good relationship with City staff He acknowledged that the <br />parking and infrastructure issues had been discussed by the PDA and Alarmed for in the <br />Downtown Specific Plan_ He noted that community parking lots had. been designed and <br />discussed. He believed that Mr. Byrd's changes to the building were very attractive and <br />that the PDA supported staffs recommendations. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED_ <br />Commissioner Fox noted that although she Found the new design to be attractive, she <br />would not support it because of the reference on page 1 1 to the demolition of the <br />100-year-old arch colonnade. She acknowledged that there was dry rot and termite <br />damage to the building and could support it if the application discussed rectifying those <br />conditions and reconstructing it similar to the original building. <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that it had been previously discussed and was not part of <br />this application_ <br />Commissioner Arkin noted that he had Faith in this particular applicant and supported the <br />expedition of this application. <br />Commissioner Roberts moved to approve the revisions to PDR-355 as conditioned <br />in the staff report, with the modification that th¢ word "initial" b¢ ins¢rt¢d before <br />all the phrases "building permit" in Conditions No. 2-7_ <br />Commissioner Arkin seconded the motion_ <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES January 26, 2005 Page 7 of 17 <br />
