He noted that there were many <br />public use restrooms available in the Downtown area and did not believe this restroom <br />should be accessible to the public at the expense of the veterans inside the hall_ <br />Larry Jackson, 4106 West Las Positas Boulevard, noted that he was the current Adjutant <br />of VFW Post 298. He noted that the renovation planning had been underway for four <br />years and believed that the last-minute addition of apublic-accessible restroom was not <br />beneficial to the original intent o£the renovation_ He noted that the Veteran's Building <br />was the most-utilized building by the City of Pleasanton Downtown and that families and <br />other social gatherings took place there on a frequent basis. He noted that it currently has <br />only two restrooms and that the typical residential re stroom was bigger than the existing <br />restrooms. He noted that the restroom under discussion was still very small and that he <br />did not believe it made sense to open these facilities to the public. <br />David Ham, 3828 Stone Pointe Way, noted that he was the current Post Quartermaster_ <br />He noted that the VFW commended the Planning Commission's effort to upgrade and <br />retrofit the Memorial Building and that they understood the value of having a <br />centrally-located restroom. He added that they had considerable concerns about the <br />consequences of placing the public restroom in the Veteran's Building and noted that the <br />Veteran's Building was a signature building and a significant landmark in Pleasanton. <br />He was also concerned about the major structural changes that would be required to meet <br />the ADA requirements. He noted that the door frame would need to be torn out to <br />accommodate a wheelchair, and the stucco would be cut out as well. He noted that there <br />were three wheelchair ramps into the building already and expressed concern that the <br />look of the building would change excessively_ He noted that the building entrance was <br />on a side street and expressed concern about vandalism; he did not believe it would serve <br />the goals stated by the City and the Commission. He noted that the restrooms in the <br />Library were larger, wheelchair-accessible, and had diaper-changing facilities as well. <br />He asked whether the City had addressed the concerns of the business neighbors <br />regarding the proposed restroom. He requested that a centrally located restroom be <br />placed in another building_ <br />Tom Dugo, 3880 Eastwood Court, noted that there were many restrooms available to the <br />public in the Downtown area and opposed the creation of a public restroom in the <br />Veteran's Building_ <br />Gloria Stahlnecker, 474 Amaral Circle, noted that she was a 50-year member and past <br />President of the VFW Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Task Force. She noted that <br />this was a shock to her and the members when it was suggested and that it was not a part <br />of the original plan. She added that she made phone calls regarding the restroom, and <br />every person she spoke to was opposed to the placement of a public restroom in the <br />Veteran's Building.
