THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED_ <br />No action was taken. <br />7_ MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS <br />Metropolitan Transportation Commission Traffic Report <br />Commissioner Fox brought a traffic report released by the Metropolitan Transportation <br />Commission which stated that I-580 around Pleasanton and Livermore are slightly worse <br />than exiting the Bay Bridge at I-80_ She noted that there had been significant jumps in <br />traffic and added that the stretch of I-580 east of Livermore Avenue to east of Greenville <br />Road was number 105 last year and is number 5 this year. She noted that i-580 in both <br />directions is extremely congested, although Bay Area traffic in general had gone down. <br />She expressed concern about the increase in congestion. She anticipated that traffic <br />levels would increase as the local economy continues to strengthen. She noted that she <br />would give the URL to staff and the Commission members_ <br />Commissioner Arkin requested that this issue be addressed by staff during the next <br />discussion of the General Plan at the City Council meeting. He would like this <br />information to be included in the model_ He believed the improvements to the Bay Area <br />transportation system have worked, but that the buildout of Tracy and the increase in <br />Central Valley building is outpacing the improvements in the Bay Area_ <br />Mr_ Pavan advised that the next work session would be held on January 25, 2005 and that <br />he would forward this information to Jeff Knowles_ He would communicate the <br />Commission's desire that the data be analyzed and discussed in his reports and <br />presentations. <br />Chairperson Maas noted that there was a consensus on the Commission regarding the <br />desire to include this information. <br />Commissioner Arkin wanted to ensure that the data would be included in the model, if it <br />was not already incorporated_ <br />AB-21 58 and AB-2348 and Regional I-Iousina Needs <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that in looking at the Western City magazine published by <br />the League of California Cities, she noted that AB-2158 and AB-2348 signed and <br />approved were included in the summary of key bills used in voting records. It addressed <br />Housing Elements and regional housing needs. She requested that Ms. Nerland look at <br />that information and let the Commission know how it applied to Pleasanton's regional <br />housing needs. The article stated that the procedures for determining shares o£ existing <br />and projected regional housing were to be figured differently but that at the previous City <br />-- Council meeting, Citizens For a Caring Community argued that the City must comply <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES January ] 2, 2005 Page ] 5 of 21 <br />
