<br /> <br />6A <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />pLfASANTONo <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />September 20, 2005 <br />Department of Planning and <br />Community Development <br /> <br />DISCUSSIO~ J\.ND REQUEST FOR DIRECTION REGARDING <br />RESIDENTIAL CONDOMINIUM CONVERSIONS <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />Staff recommends the Co~ncil approve Ootion 3 included in this report to <br />review the existing Con&minium Conversion Ordinance and the <br />Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance to address conformance with State law and <br />affordable housing requirements. <br /> <br />The Planning Department has received an increase in the number of <br />inquiries and two applications requesting approval to convert existing rental <br />apartments into for-sale condominiums. The City has had a Condominium <br />Conversion Ordinance in place since the 1980's. However, the Ordinance <br />may require updating in order to meet current state requirements and to <br />incorporate provisions for affordable housing relative to the City's <br />Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance. This reports presents several issues related <br />to the increased requests for condominium conversion and requests the <br />Council authorize staff to review this matter in more detail including <br />forwarding the matter to the Housing and Planning Commissions.
