<br />On June 20,2005, the Award for Artistic Excellence Selection Subcommittee chose "Whooping <br />Stick," by Artist Billy Eads, as its award recipient for 2005, The artwork pays tribute to our <br />nation's Native American heritage and depicts an actual ceremonial implement used to begin the <br />annual buffalo hunts of the western plains, The piece was hand crafted by Mr. Eads. <br /> <br />"Whooping Stick" has been on display on the wall leading to the City Council Chamber since <br />October 18,2005. Special consideration was given regarding the protection of the piece during <br />its display and no vandalism, touching, etc, has occurred. During the review period, comment <br />cards were available to solicit and gather public input regarding the artwork.
