Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:

BACKGROUND

The subject project was authorized under the FY 2004/2005 Capital Improvement
Program. The funding source is the Streets General Fund. The project consists of the
construction of approximately 47 access ramps in the northwest section of Pleasanton. The
purpose of this project is to improve pedestrian safety and improve accessibility for City
sidewalks.

BIDS

Sealed bids for this project were opened on January 26, 2006. There were a total of seven
bids received, ranging from $81,300 to $142,960. The Engineer's estimate for the project
was $89,600. The lowest bid of $81,300 was received from AJW Construction. All bid
documents submitted by AJW Construction were found to be in order. Past work
performed by AJW Construction was verified to be satisfactory.

BUDGET

Funds
Annual Sidewalk & Intersection Ramp
Installations, CIP No. 045005

$103,098

Expenditures
Construction Contract
Construction Contingency (15 %)

TOTAL

$81,300
$12,195
$93,495

Staff recommends that the construction contingency amount for this project be 15 % due to
previous work of a similar nature where it has been difficult to determine the exact
amount of concrete area that will need replacement in order to transition new work to
existing sidewalks, and to repair or replace damaged segments of sidewalk not identified
in the plans.

SCHEDULE

Award of Contract
Start of Construction
End of Construction

February 21, 2006
March 30,2006
April 14, 2006

SR 06:055
Page 2 of3
