<br /> <br />4K <br /> <br />\. <br /> <br />pLEASANTONc <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />February 7, 2006 <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR THE EXTENSION OF BART TO <br />LIVERMORE <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br />meeting of February 7, 2006. <br /> <br />1. Authorize the Mayor to sign the attached letter of support for including <br />the extension of BART to Livermore in the Regional Rail Plan. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is currently <br />preparing a comprehensive Regional Rail Plan for the Bay Area. <br />Pleasanton has received a letter from the City of Livermore requesting <br />that Pleasanton send a letter to the MTC supporting the inclusion of the <br />BART to Livermore extension as part of the MTC Plan. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), along with a coalition of rail passenger <br />and freight operators, is currently preparing a comprehensive Regional Rail Plan for the Bay <br />Area, as required by the voters in the Regional Measure 2 (RM2) Traffic Congestion Relief <br />Program. The Regional Rail Plan will examine ways to incorporate passenger trains into <br />existing rail systems, improve connections to other trains and transit, expand the regional <br />rapid transit network, increase rail capacity and coordinate rail investment around transit- <br />friendly communities and businesses.
