<br />Recently the City has received several requests to process a conditional use permit to <br />keep chickens as pets and for related 4-H projectso The City has been processing <br />conditional use pennits for the keeping of chickens "Within the R-l residential districts <br />and, thus far, has processed t"Wo pennitso The conditional use permit process for these <br />tw"o applications varied significantly 0 The ilnpact chickens had at both locations "Was <br />detennined to be very little; ho"Wever, staff found the use pennit process turned into a <br />foruln to discuss other neighborhood issues unrelated in lnost cases to the chickenso <br />During the processing of the use pennits, the Planning COlnlnission requested additional <br />infonnation related to the required process for a potential Code aInendlnent allo"Wing <br />chickens to be kept in single-family residential districts. Additionally, the City Council <br />has requested that staff process a Code alnendlnent that "Would allo"W chickens to be kept <br />in this zoning districto <br /> <br />PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Staff is proposing amendlnents to the Pleasanton Municipal Code in order to cOlnply "With <br />the direction of both the City Council and the Planning COlnlnissiono These aInendlnents <br />~ould pennit the keeping of up to four chickens, no roosters; and allo"W them to be kept <br />as pets in a single-falnily residential district if the request can lneet certain standardso <br />The process "Would be an 'over the counter' process that "Will rely on an applicant <br />producing an adequate level of infonnation confinning the proposed standards can be <br />ITlet.
