MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS <br />Chairperson Arkin advised that at the first workshop on California Splash, he <br />recommended to staff that a workshop before City Council would be desirable- He <br />believed that the televised Council meetings would be useful in communicating the <br />information to the residents at large- He anticipated that the project would be <br />controversial, and has received intensive lobbying from citizens who oppose the project. <br />He noted that some citizens were considering an initi alive to stop the project. <br />Commissioner Maas believed that the normal procedures should be followed. <br />Mr_ lserson noted that after the Planning Comiriission takes action on the project, City <br />Council may decide to have a workshop, bui that it was not within his purview to place a <br />workshop on the Council agenda. <br />Commissioner Kemeny understood Chairperson Arkin's point of view, and noted that <br />many residents are not aware of some of these issues. <br />Commissioner Kan~eny noted that he was concerned about public safety and quality of <br />life issues, and had often experienced traffic congestion near schools during drop-off and <br />pick-up riiries. He believed it was a major safety concern, and inquired who he could <br />contact with respect to that issue. <br />Mr. Iscrson advised that he could contact the City "Traffic Engineer and the school <br />district.
