Mr. Iserson noted that the proximity of the school has led neighbors to voice concenis about traffic and safety in the area_ Commissioner Maas noted that the School District was not asked to be responsible for traffic created by school locations. C7ommissioner Kemeny noted that if the application were to be improved, he would encourage the applicants to refer to the design guidelines for Walnut Glen_ He did not object to a 5,500 square foot single-story house on this lot, nor to the additional height to accommodate anon-livable turret. In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Maas whether the garage design should be condition, Commissioner Roberts noted that the Design Guidelines stated that the garage should be angled and not visible. Commissioner Kemeny noted that he did not find a front garage view to be attractive. Mr. iserson cited Section 3.5 of the proposed Design Guidelines, which stated= "Garage Doors. Minimize the visual impact of garage doors on the front building elevation by providing side-entry or angled-entry garages, by placing the garage door behind the living area wall plane., by locating the garage as detached or breeze-way connected detached garage behind the home, or by integrating the garage door design with a courtyard, entry portal, etc." Commissioner Roberts suggested that the contractors be notified of the school start and dismissal times, and that they adjust their construction hours accordingly to avoid conflict with school traffic. In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Kemeny, Mr. Iserson confirmed that there were exceptions in the Code to allow turrets, towers, and similar structures to exceed the height limit. He noted that if the height was increased be 30 feet, the entire building could be 30 feet tall, and suggested that the condition be worded more speci£ically_ Commissioner Kemeny noted that he would not like to see a good building design to be turned dowtt because of a t3ve foot height limitation. In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Maas, Mr. lserson stated that the involvement of the Traffic Engineer and Traffic CGommittee with respect to the street widening should be a separate direction from this application.
