THE CITY OF <br />- -. ....... -c::ee l~ ^ ... <br />PL-L ~S14NTON® <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />City Council Chambers <br />200 Old Bernal Avenue, Pleasanton, CA 94566 <br />APPROVED <br />Wednesday, June 25, 2003 <br />GALL TO ORDER <br />The Planning Coxnnzission n-ieeting of June 25, 2003, was called to order at Ei:32 p_xri_ by <br />Chairperson Arkin. <br />Presentation by BART staff re~ardin~ a study of Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) rail <br />transit alternatives that would connect Tracy and Livermore with the <br />Dublin/Yleasanton BART Station, and potentially serve areas_to the north in the <br />I-680 corridor. <br />Val Joseph Minoti, Manager, Alameda County Planning, made a PowerPoint presentation <br />regarding Phase 2 of the I-580 Corridor Transit Study_ I-Ie described the background of <br />the proj act, and displayed the projected weekday trips to and from Livermore and the <br />Altairiont in 2020, as dcnionstrated by Phase l ofi the Study. He noted that 2% would go <br />to San Francisco, and 7% would go to Oakland or Berkeley. <br />He noted that the goals of Phase 2 were to utilize an expanded study area and refine the <br />transit options to lower costs and increase ridership. Ln addition, four travel markets were <br />sought: <br />1 . Transfers from tBAK7:~ to BART; <br />2. Intra-Tri-Valley; <br />3. Central Valley to Tri-Valley jobs, and <br />4. Reverse commute to "hri-Valley jobs. <br />Mr. Minoti described the advantages the Light DMUs: <br />1 . Fast acceleration (2.5 mphps) allows more frequent stops; <br />2.
