As you may be av.'are,' the Califomla <br /> Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) oversees the,cleanup of sites where <br /> hazardous substances have been released pursuant to the California Health and Safety <br /> Code, Division 20. Chapter 6.8. As a potential Resource Agency, DTSC Is submitting <br /> . comments to ensure that the environmental documentation prepared for this project to <br /> address the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) adequately addresses any. <br /> required remediation activities which may be required to address any hazardous <br /> substances release. . <br /> The initial study checklist for the Supplemental EIR did not address Hazardous <br /> Materials. Since the past usage of the parcels was agriculture, the presence of <br /> pesticides in the soil is a concern and could pose a potential health risk to the future. . <br /> residents. We understand that an Environmental Impact Report (E1R) has been <br /> approved for this project. If this issue has been addressed in the approved EIR, please <br /> ignore this comment Otherwise. please address in the Supplemental EIR. <br /> , <br /> DlSC can assist your agency or the proponent in overseeing characterization and <br /> cleanup activities through our Voluntary Cleanup Program. A fact sheet describing this <br /> program is enclosed.
