Public reaction to the proposed art piece has been <br /> overwhelmingly positive, and the project has received the endorsement of <br /> the Parks and Recreation Commission and Civic Arts Commission. <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br />BACKGROUND <br />Pleasanton residents Gray and Nancy Harrington are interested in donating a sculpture for the <br />front of the Veterans Memorial Building. The piece, entitled Poppies, is a bronze sculpture, <br />depicting a Veteran sitting on a bench. The Veteran is waving a flag and holding poppies in his <br />hand. Both the sculpture and the bench are part of the proposed gift. <br />The Harrington's are very interested in establishing an on-going relationship with the City to <br />provide public art for the Downtown area. They are open to all kinds of projects, themes, media, <br />and subjects.
