The PTA Go Green Initiative program was originally developed by the Walnut Grove
Elementary PTA, and was piloted at four P1easanton school sites during the 2002-2003 school
year. Due to the success of the program, the California State PTA authorized the dissemination
of the program to PTA's statewide, and the Texas State PTA adopted the program in July 2003.
The Go Green Initiative is now supported in several school districts nationwide.
The Go Green Initiative has a proven track record for success in the Pleasanton schools. Staff is
recommending a Measure D grant in the amount of $40,000 for the 2005-06 school year. This
amount will be combined with a grant from the Pleasanton Unified School District to provide
funds to all sixteen Pleasanton schools. Go Green has an effective monitoring report system in
place and quarterly reports will continue to be submitted, as required by the City and state.
FISCAL IMPACT
The $40,000 grant is from the City's Measure D recycling funds. Measure D funds are a
restricted revenue that can only be used the City to advance recycling programs.
Respectfully Submitted,
([ DA~ ~~ ~
Jacquelyn Diaz Sue Rossi Nelson Fialho
Assistant to the City Manager Finance Director City Manager
SR:05:289
