The City Council is asked to review design <br /> options to provide direction on the concept and appearance of the signs. <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br />BACKGROUND <br />For the past two years, the Pleasanton Downtown Association (PDA) has been working with City <br />staff to develop an off-site signage program to identify side street businesses. In late 2005, the <br />Planning Department approved the placement of a series of "More Shops" sandwich board signs <br />at major cross points in the Downtown to help draw pedestrian traffic to side street businesses <br />during the holiday season. The signs were eye-catching, and therefore effective, and the PDA <br />requested the signs remain in use until permanent signs were installed. <br />The PDA's Retail Side Street Signage Committee (RSSSC), a subcommittee of the Downtown <br />Vitality Committee, has developed a proposal for permanent off-site signs throughout the <br />Downtown district.
