ClVlC ARTS COMMISSION <br /> <br />Chapter 2.39 <br /> <br />2.39.010 Commission Created: <br />There is created a Civic Arts Commission (Commission). <br /> <br />2.39.020 Duties: <br /> <br />A. The Commission shall be responsible for advising the City Council on matters <br />related to public art. <br /> <br />B. The duties of the Commission shall include the tbllowine: <br /> <br />1. Act in an advisory ~:apacity to the City Council for recommendations <br />regarding the administration of the Public Art Program including the establishing <br />of program policies and guidelines, recommending annual public art budgets and <br />selecting art juries. It shall also be responsible to the City Council for <br />recommendations regarding the administration of the City Civic Arts Program <br />including establishing program policies, goals and fees. <br /> <br />2. Designate sites, determine project scope and budget, oversee the artist <br />selection process, commission artworks, review design, execution and placement <br />of artworks, and oversee the process for removal of artworks from the Public Art <br />Collection. <br /> <br />3. Submit to the City Council for its approval, an Annual Public Art Projects <br />Plan with a prioritized list of proposed public art projects, recommended budgets <br />and funding sources and design approaches. The Annual Public Art Projects Plan <br />shall be submitted in consultation with City agencies anticipating City Capital <br />Projects and/or private organizations or individuals wishing to develop a public <br />art project. <br /> <br />4. Establish, coordinate and include in Annual Public Art Projects Plan <br />recommendations for the ongoing maintenance of the City Public Art Collection, <br />and provisions for an ongoing educational program which will enhance the <br />community's awareness and appreciation of the City Public Art Collection. <br /> <br />5. Determine the method or methods of selection and commissioning of artists <br />with respect to the design, execution and placement of works of art for which <br />appropriations have been made, and, pursuant to such method or methods, make <br />recommendations to the City Council for the selection and commission of artists. <br />The Civic Arts Commission, if it deems it appropriate, may invite professionals in <br />the visual arts and design fields to serve in the selection process in order to ensure <br />works of the highest quality.
