<br /> / '\ <br /> '- <br /> pLEASANTONc City Council <br /> Staff Report <br /> February 4, 2003 <br /> Public Works Department <br /> SUBJECT: MODIFICATION OF THE VINEYARD CORRIDOR <br /> NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC CALMING PLAN <br /> STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br /> meeting of February 4,2003: <br /> Approve the changes to the July 2000 recommendations for the Vineyard <br /> Corridor listed below. <br /> 1. Eliminate the two remaining landscaped islands from construction <br /> schedule. <br /> 2. Authorize staff to enter a contract for the design of a traffic signal and <br /> minor roadway modifications for the intersection of Vineyard Avenue at <br /> Montevino Drive. <br /> 3. Authorize staff to restripe Vineyard Avenue to provide one westbound <br /> vehicle lane and one bike lane, creating striped pedestrian refuge islands <br /> at Touriga Drive. <br /> 4. Revisit the issue of Vineyard Corridor traffic noise and calming <br /> measures after completion of the Bernal A venue bridge at Arroyo Del <br /> Valle, Stanley Boulevard at Valley/Bemal and the new Vineyard Avenue <br /> realignment project. <br /> SUMMARY In fall 1998, staff received numerous complaints of increased traffic <br /> volume, speed and noise on Vineyard Avenue between Bernal Avenue and <br /> Montevino Drive. These complaints were driven by a combination of the <br /> traffic diversion from Stanley Boulevard due to lane closures and concerns <br /> about additional traffic impacts from the Vineyard Corridor Specific Plan. <br /> In June of 1999 City Council directed staff to implement the Neighborhood <br /> X:\ADMIN\PGGS\Council2005\MEETINGl00405\SR 05276 AttachmentI.doc <br /> Page 1 <br />
