<br /> r '\ <br /> 6C <br /> '" <br />pLEASANTONc City Council <br /> Staff Report <br /> October 4, 2005 <br /> Public Works Department <br />SUBJECT: REVIEW OF TRAFFIC CALMING AND TRAFFIC CONTROL <br /> ELEMENTS ALONG THE VINEYARD A VENUE CORRIDOR <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br /> meeting of October 4,2005: <br /> 1. Direct staff to include a traffic signal controlled trail crossing at <br /> Petronave Lane as part of the conversion of Old Vineyard A venue to a <br /> multi-purpose trail. <br /> 2. Review the traffic control options where two roundabouts currently <br /> exist along Vineyard Avenue and authorize staff to proceed with <br /> landscaping design work for the roundabout center islands. Revisit this <br /> issue after the pending court decisions have been finalized regarding <br /> Neal School. <br /> 3. Direct staff to proceed with obtaining a consultant to design Vineyard <br /> A venue between Montevino Drive and Bernal A venue as a two-lane <br /> street with medians. <br />SUMMARY: In the fall of 1998, staff received numerous complaints of increased traffic <br /> volume, speed and noise on Vineyard Avenue between Bernal Avenue and <br /> Montevino Drive. These complaints were driven by a combination of the <br /> traffic diversion from Stanley Boulevard due to lane closures and concerns <br /> about additional traffic impacts from the Vineyard Corridor Specific Plan. <br /> In June of 1999, City Council directed staff to implement the <br /> Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program to address these neighborhood <br />SR:05:276 <br />Page 10f9 <br />
