/
6F
.... ./
pLEASANTONe City Council
Staff Report
October 4, 2005
City Clerk
SUBJECT REVIEW OF BIDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR LEGAL
PUBLICATIONS
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council:
1. Award an Agreement to publish the City's legal notices for the 2005-06
fiscal year to "The Valley Times".
2. Approve Option 4 amending the City's current practice of publishing
meeting notices.
SUMMARY: The City utilizes local newspapers for publishing legal notices and general
notices related to various types of City business including notification of
public meetings. While State law requires publication of certain legal
notifications, others are at the discretion of the City. This report
recommends approval of an agreement for publishing legal notices and
modifications to the current practice of publishing general notices.
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:
BACKGROUND
Legal Notices
Section 20169 of the California Public Contracts Code requires cities with more than one
newspaper of general circulation to solicit bids annually to publish its legal notices. Most
commonly these notices are required for public works construction bids and public hearing
notices. A notice soliciting proposals was duly advertised and the bids were opened and
reviewed on July 8, 2005. In addition to requesting bids for required public hearing notices, the
City bid requested pricing for various sized display ads that are used for a range of meeting and
informational notices. A summary of the bid responses is as follows:
SR:05:190 Page 1
