He encouraged the design to be more home-like, rather than just a house. <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Arkin about whether Larry Cannon reviewed this <br />project, Ms. Decker replied that this application was not peer-reviewed, although several <br />iterations of the materials and elevations were reviewed. She noted that there was variation in <br />the fa~ade treatment. <br />In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Arkin on whether the Housing Commission <br />examined such infill projects for affordable housing and whether it considered this particular <br />project, Ms. Decker replied that this particular project was not required to have inclusionary <br />housing and that it met the affordability-by-design criterion. <br />Commissioner Fox noted that she liked this design, especially the symmetry and variation in <br />housing materials, and that she would support this project. <br />Chairperson Maas noted that she did not object to the tandem parking and was concerned about <br />the loss of sky view. <br />Commissioner Blank expressed concern about density and believed the home designs were not <br />distinct enough for his taste. <br />Commissioner Roberts believed that the roof slopes were too similar, and she did not like the <br />carport at the duplex. <br />Chairperson Maas suggested that the item be continued so the applicant may work with staffto <br />fine-tune the issues and design. <br />Commissioner Maas moved to continue this item and refer it to staff for further <br />modification. <br />Commissioner Blank seconded the motion. <br />Commissioner Arkin expressed concern about the number of homes on a quarter-acre lot. He <br />would support a peer review of this project. <br />Chairperson Maas agreed that a peer review would be beneficial. <br />Commissioner Blank agreed with Commissioner Roberts' sensitivity toward affordable or <br />achievable housing, which may be gained by using altemative designs. He believed the roof <br />slopes and duplex parking should be examined more closely.
