In 1999, the show was
discontinued due to a shooting incident that occurred the previous year. The
Parks and Recreation Commission inquired about the possibility of resuming
the fireworks show, with the City possibly providing financial support for
the event. After reviewing issues related to this topic, the Commission
recommended that the City Council pursue that concept with the Fair Board.
This report also includes staff's review of proposed options and logistics
associated with a separate City-sponsored event.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:
BACKGROUND

SR 05:144
Page 1
