pL£AS&NTON CityCouncil
Staff Report

August 16, 2005
City Manager

SUBJECT: COUNCIL ASSIGNMENTS TO LOCAL AND REGIONAL
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

STAFF
RECOMMENDATION: Council review and approve the Mayor's appointments to
Council committees, regional and local authorities, boards,
commissions and committees.

SUMMARY: Each year, the Mayor reviews and revises, as necessary, Council
assignments to regional authorities, boards, commissions,
committees, joint powers authorities and internal Council
committees. At the time the current assignments were adopted,
a vacancy existed on the Council. Since that vacancy has been
filled, it is necessary to revisit the assignments.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council:

BACKGROUND

The City of Pleasanton is represented by its elected officials on numerous regional
organizations which have jurisdiction over various policy matters affecting the City.
Various internal committees, comprised of Council representatives, advise the full Council
on other policy matters. Annually, the Council is asked to ratify the Mayor's appointments
to these committees.

The Council last ratified appointments in December 2004. However, at that time, a
vacancy existed on the Council due to then-Councilmember Hosterman's election to the
Mayor's Office. On June 7, 2005, a special election was held, and Jerry Thorne was
elected to serve the unexpired Hosterman term. Therefore, it is necessary to revisit and
revise the assignments to include representation by all members of the City Council.

SR 05:198
