Crellin Road Speed Lump Pilot Pro. ieet

In the fall of 2003, Crellin Road residents raised concerns regarding speed and the Traffic
Calming Program was given to the residents.

Staff began with the Tier I tools to address their concerns about high speeds. Enforcement
was increased and additional speed limit signs were installed, but these measures failed to
bring the speeds on Crellin Road into line with other Pleasanton neighborhoods. The residents
collected the required 51% of residence signatures to begin the Tier II element of the
program. Meetings were held to present thc speed and volume data collected and to discuss
options. Residents chose speed lumps as the desired traffic calming device. Petitions were
circulated to residems living within 500 feet of each proposed speed lump, and received the
necessary 67 % level of support.

In May 2004, the City Council approved the pilot program for installation of speed lumps.
After additional engineering work and testing by emergency service providers, six speed
lumps were installed on Crellin Road in October 2004. The speed lumps are made of
prefabricated rubber strips and the installation proceeded quickly with a minimum of
construction noise and inconvenience to residents.

SR:05:223
