/
68
\..
pLfASANTONc City Council
Staff Report
September 6, 2005 d'lgmt 1 e, 2995
Parks and Community Services Department
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF FUNDING ALLOCATION FOR RENOVATION OF
DONLON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ATHLETIC FIELDS IN
COLLABORATION WITH PLEASANTON UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council reallocate up to $500,000 from the Civic Center Site
Improvement Reserve (including expansion of the Library, removal of
modular buildings, new City Hall office complex, and community/youth
center), and authorize the City Manager to execute any related documents
for a joint project with Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) to
renovate the athletic fields at Donlon Elementary School.
SUMMARY: Per the Council's direction, staff has been working with School District
representatives for approximately 18 months on a potential renovation plan
for the 9-acre athletic field area at Donlon Elementary School. After
reviewing possible improvement options in December 2004 ranging from $1
million to $4.133 million, the Council indicated a willingness to consider a
joint funding plan with PUSD to upgrade the fields consistent with other
elementary school sites throughout the City. In May 2005, the PUSD Board
of Trustees authorized the expenditure of up to $500,000 for the
improvements, with the understanding that the City would provide a similar
amount as a joint venture. The District is currently negotiating a consultant
contract with RRM Design Group, the firm originally retained by the City to
develop conceptual designs, to finalize construction drawings for the
proposed improvements. The project would be initiated in a phased
approach, with an anticipated completion date of fall 2007.
SR 05:145
Page 1
