THE CITY OF

City Council
Staff Report
July 19, 2005
City Manager

SUBJECT: Appointments to the WHEELS AccessibLe Advisory Committee
SUMMARY: The Council is asked to ratify the Mayor's appointments.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:
BACKGROUND
The Wheels Accessible Advisory Committee (WAAC) was formed by the kivermore-
Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) to deal with disabled access issues on WHEELS
buses. Recently, LAVTA advised the City (letter attached) about upcoming vacancies on
the WAAC.
Pleasanton is represented by two members and one alternate on this Committee.
Members and alternates must be both disabled and capable of travelling to monthly
meetings. LAVTA advertises the vacancies; member jurisdictions are asked to select
representatives from the pool of applicants. For this round of vacancies, applications were
due to LAVTA by May 20, 2005. No applications were received for the advertised
vacancies of one Pleasanton representative and one alternate member. The table below
shows Pleasanton's current representation on the WAAC.
Position Name Term Expiration

Member Jim Willows 6/30/05
Member Herb Clayton 6/30/06
Alternate Katherine Auger 6/30/05

Under both WAAC by laws (permits only two, two-year terms) and City rules (eight-year
service limitation), Mr. Willows can no longer serve as a WAAC member.

SR 05:185

1
