COMMTTNTC'1\TlONS
Mr. Swift commented that the Planning Commission had received a communication from the
General Plan Update Steering Committee regarding the process to be used for the citizen-at-
large participation in the General Plan update process. The Commissioners were requested
to make any comments by Friday, January 14th.

In response to Chairman McGuirk, Mr. Swift spoke about the process the subcommittees will
use to come together and create a General Plan out of all the subcommittees' reports. He
believes that the process will evolve as the committees work on revising the General Plan.
In response to Commissioner Michelotti, Mr. Swift advised that the subcommittee meetings
are open to the public and that anyone is welcome to attend the meetings.

Mr. Swift inquired if the Commissioners would like to keep updated on the General Plan
process by having this item regularly Scheduled on the agenda. Mr. Swift feels that the
Commission could keep abreast of the subcommittees' findings as well as review background
materials provided to the Commission. The Commission could also provide comments and
suggestions to the General Plan Committee.

A discussion ensued among the Commissioners on whether or not they could get involved
with the General Plan Subcommittees. It was related that they could get involved on the
committees as individuals. As Commissioners, they could keep track of the findings of the
various subcommittees and offer suggestions or clarifications on topics to be explored and
other issues.

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 4

laouary 12, 1994
