<br />.- <br /> <br />Commissioner Horan stated that he endorsed the logic that staff h suggested and felt a <br />convention-type center should be more centrally located in Pleasan n than the proposed site. <br />He also would like to reopen the sign issue by sending it back to e Design Review Board <br />with a comprehensive plan, making sure that the applicant unders ds that just because it is <br />a national program that it must still pass the standard signage limit . <br /> <br />Commissioner Mahem agreed with the staff conditions and felt tha the reduced use of the <br />project is good. She felt this type of facility was good for traveler; liked the project, and <br />felt it was needed in Pleasanton. She also agreed the City needs a large convention center, <br />but that this location and project was not the ideal spot. She agr the signage should go <br />back to the Design Review Board, even though she had no proble with internally <br />illuminated channel letters if they are not too gaudy. She agreed ith Chairman Hovingh <br />that some kind of walkway from and to the Holiday Inn and nearb shopping mall should be <br />included. <br /> <br />Commissioner McGuirk agreed with most of the staff report. He so agreed with the <br />applicant that the City is ready for this type of proj ect and feels it ill be successful. At first <br />he had been concerned about the traffic generation on the project; owever, after listening to <br />Mr. Swift, his concerns have been allayed. In regard to signage, e felt that if the <br />applicant's sign looked like the Doubletree Hotel's signage, he wo ld have no problem with <br />it. He felt that the parcel is somewhat unusual and that this proj is probably the most <br />suitable for it. He would also want some kind of walkway to the oliday Inn and the <br />shopping center. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Commissioner Wright agreed with the Commission's comments. e added that he would <br />delete Condition 9 in regard to a satellite dish as the applicant doe not intend to have one. <br />He referred to Condition 14.3 - he noted there are 10 trees on the site; he would like to see <br />either $5,000 for each tree, up to 10 trees, or condition it so that ere is a replacement set <br />up in case the trees fail so that a mature tree would be transplan . He would like to amend <br />Condition 10 in that regard. In regard to Condition 25 and water vailability, he wished to <br />make sure that the City has adopted a water conservation program in the way of low-flush <br />toilets and low-use shower heads. He noted they could retain the riginal Condition 38 that <br />provides for a sidewalk all the walk through. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Mahem, seconded by Com <br />recommending approval of the Negative Declaration prepared for <br />as project approval will create an insignificant adverse effect on <br /> <br /> <br />lt that this project suited <br />extension of the <br />ould connect to the <br /> <br />Chairman Hovingh agreed with the Commission's comments and <br />the site very well.
