Title: Detailed Comments on the Bernal Property: A Vision of an
Accessible, Balanced Plan for Families & Individual Health & Culture
(viewed on CTV last evening)

Dear Terry and the City of Pleasanton planners and leaders,

You received my email {below) prior to the the Bernal Property Town
Hall meeting, to be made a part of the record to be reviewed by
decision makers. After watching the meeting on TV last night, I would
like to add the following comments, for the record, in reference to the
comments of the speakers.

Hy Comments on the Best Use of the Bernal Property Space and an
Implementation Plan

1. The "Pleasanton Family & Youth Fitness & Activities Center"

The City of Pleasanton has built **public** sports facilities behind
private gated co~muunities (Ruby Hill, where the former City Hanager
lives), while the City's Planning Department and Recreation Department
and School District have failed to provide adequate access to sports
facilities to thousands of residents in the Southern region of town, so
it is time for the City to provide for the underserved, while also
accommodating the needs expressed by the private soccer, baseball,
football, and lacross organizations' needs.

The proposed Youth Center should be located in close proximity to the
fields and park, so that teens and youth can self-organize and play
either indoor or outdoor sports. It should share underground parking,
if possible, with the Cultural Arts Facility. It should be large
enough {as large as the gymnasium at PMS, a facility which is only open
for use by grade 6-8 children during the day until 5pm, and Adult
League Play in the evenings from 6pm-10pm) . The facility should be
large enough for two regulation full-court basketball courts
lengthwise, and four crosswise (just like PMS) and be available for use
by anyone in the community, at any time of the day or night, for
drop-in pickup games, rain or shine, 24x7x365. With enough interest
and players, such a facility can be converted to volleyball court,
badminton, and it should have a weight room, so that the kids of all
ages can self-organize, play, and develop their bodies in whichever
sport that they choose, according to their schedule. The facility
should serve their schedule, not the other way around.

The most fastest growing sport in internationally is Basketball, yet
