THE CITY OF 4E <br />pL£AS&NTON Ci Council <br /> Staff Report <br /> <br /> April 19, 2005 <br /> Parks and Community Services <br /> <br />SUBJECT ADOPTION OF A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE EXECUTION <br /> OF A JOINT USE AGREEMENT FOR THE VETERANS <br /> MEMORIAL BUILDING <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br /> That the City Council adopt a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to <br /> execute a Joint Use Agreement with local Veterans Organizations for use of <br /> the Veterans Memorial Building. <br /> <br />SUMMARY The proposed Joint Use Agreement for the Veterans Memorial Building <br /> would preserve the exclusive use of two (2) designated rooms for Veterans <br /> activities, define main hall rental use protocols, specify communication <br /> between the Organizations and the City, and provide a reference document <br /> for use by members and staff. Thc Agreement would provide more <br /> autonomy for the Organizations to manage Veterans groups affiliated with <br /> the building by eliminating the Veterans Commission and establishing a <br /> Veterans Organizations ofPleasanton (VOP). <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Veterans Memorial Building was designed in 1932 by one of Alameda County's most <br />important architects in the first half of the century, Henry H. Meyers. Located at 301 Main <br />Street, it is one of only ten (10) such buildings constructed in the County. <br /> <br />In April 1973, Alameda County entered into an agreement with the City of Pleasanton to act as <br />the County's agent in managing and operating the facility.
